Our interview with the English death metal band Worship the Sacrifice about their upcoming Prophecy of Demise Ep.
Welcome to Rattle Ad guys! We would like to know how and when you have formed the band?
The band was formed during the Covid lockdown back in 2021. We were a collection of musicians stuck at home wanting to express ourselves through music and we connected to each other from our home studios and created what we believe to be some very fresh, unique and great sounding music. We officially formed as a band in March 2021 and released our first single in April 2021, from there it’s an amazing journey so far and we’re excited to see where we go!
Please introduce us the members of WTS?
First up we have the bassmeister Ben Black who provides an interwoven bassline between the melody and chaos adding a 4th dimension to the experience of our music. Jonno Hanen one of the most talented drummers we’ve ever seen and worked with, Jonno brings an interesting flare to his drums and can blast an absolute machine. Steve Sharp the mastermind behind the riffs he is a beast of a lead guitar player. Not only has Steve coined our unique blend of chaos and melody but he embodies that duality in his live performance which you just HAVE TO witness one day. Gus Everitt not only is one of the most talented and dedicated guitarists providing rhythm to our music but he also brings a wealth of knowledge and an energy filled live performance that matches the intensity of our music. Last but not least we have the Leader of our Worship Cult; Lazerus, the voice of the band and one of the most dedicated Vocalists and frontman in the underground today. His dedication to continuous improvement and his drive to push the band as far as it can go is a true beacon of inspiration for the band as a whole.
Which bands and musicians were your main influences?
So many to name… Arch Enemy, Lamb of God, Slipknot, Megadeth, Nile, Cannibal Corpse, Children of Bodom, Death… that just scratches the surface really.
Can you describe the meaning behind your name „Worship the Sacrifice”?
In the world we live in there is a necessity for constant sacrifice. We all make small sacrifices on a daily basis whether its to be charitable, to be diplomatic, to show love, to help us achieve our dreams. These small sacrifices are part of whats good in this world and that should be celebrated. Sacrifice should be worshipped.
You are about to release your new EP entitled “Prophecy of Demise”. This EP will include the singles “Aphotic” and “Titan”. Could tell us a few words about those 2 songs? And what can we expect from this album?
This EP is another chapter in the larger story that our music is telling. Like in ancient days when sacrificial ceremonies were held, there was a sequence of key events throughout that completed the ritual. Each offering we release is a step towards the completion of our first ritual.
Your music often explores dark and intense themes. What inspires these lyrical concepts?
Lazerus writes the lyrics for all our songs and he often taps into his perspective of the human experience and combines it with metaphorical references to world events and historical practises. There is a mixture of dark themes, existentialism, mental health and anger in the lyrics you’ll read.
Are there social or political issues that are important to you and if yes, how do they influence your music?
Because Lazerus writes the lyrics it is often his opinions and beliefs that come through in the messages. As a band we often assimilate to what Laz writes about and we feel like he interprets the subjects in a way we tend to agree with. Important subjects for us are Mental health, inclusion and respect for everyone, anti-greed, freethinking.
What do you think about the current state of the metal scene, and how does your band fit into it?
The UK has a very rich Underground scene at the moment. The emerging talent is absolutely top tier and it’s inspiring to see! There feels like a strong community forming amongst all the scenes that build the underground and it’s been an absolute pleasure to meet all the bands we’ve played with so far. The venues and the staff and the promoters who put on the shows are equally great too! We need to put more emphasis and support on Underground metal shows to help keep the venues open and to highlight the beastly talent we have in our country! If we lose the venues we lose the opportunity to witness these talents and we become hostages to the mainstream who’s main ambition is to bleed as much money out of the people as possible. Its all business and no passion, the underground is run off pure passion and love.
What are your goals for the future of Worship the Sacrifice?
We just want to keep writing and playing our music. Touching the hearts of anyone who will listen and feel our music. This is a piece of our souls put onto the plate for you all and we’re here to enjoy every minute of it while we can. To play with bands we look up to and to experience playing at the festivals and venues we look up to from childhood would be a bucketlist item of ours for sure.

How do you interact with your audience and is there a message that you wish to send?
We are often attending local shows to support our friends and the scene. We often interact with our audience as we all participate in the same community and go to the same shows and venues. We created a community in London called the London Metal Coalition which provides a platform for London-based bands to work together to support eachother and the scene as a whole. Through that we have created a large community of metal fans and musicians. Its great.
