TONGUES – Hreilia
Tongues 2018-01-06, 0 CommentNorthern Europe can be considered as one of the main bases of the continent’s metal scene. As such, nobody should be surprised that many bands come to us playing different genres from this region. One of them is Tongues from Denmark with their album called Hreilia. The cover of the CD prepares us for something big. Something dark, Something scary. And truly, Perennial Waves as the first song is a pure combination of genres like dark death, but mainly doom and black metal. The first part of this piece can be described as the calm before the storm. Minutes that prepare us for total soul destruction. The next part is full of hardness, rawness, cruelty, but still contains some melodic passages. Some releasing before the next torture. Great atmospheric metal masterpiece. The same words can be used to describe the next tune Theophanous Wounds Of Earth - a piece with great composition and many contrasts- some cruel and hard passages, and in the next seconds we can hear something more melodic. Such a great job- perfect instrumental side with amazing dark atmosphere. Then we continue with one short instrumental dramatic song Interlude, which prepares us for the best song on Hreilia- ... And The Ever Watchful Clouds. Mainly great vocals that sound like a mystic voice from the darkness. Next perfect element. Then we can hear two other songs (again black/doom combination with strong composition) and the last self-titled tune - another dramatic and almost instrumental piece. And this is also the most important fact about Hreilia - it is pure dramatic art, full of dark atmosphere, and shows us a wide scale of emotions and moods. All of this encapsulated into fantastic music - as I said before strong instrumental side with hard and raw parts alternated with melodies. And when we add up to it the aforementioned dark atmosphere... I think that we are talking about one of the best albums of 2017. No hesitation: I have to put 10/10 SAMPLE: YouTube link Tracklist: 1.
